There was a nearly full moon in the sky (called the moon), and I arrived late, almost halfway through the lunatically skewed orchestrations of Robertson and crew. It was Roadbed on stage playing “Bent,” making a fine sound to end what was apparently a five-song set. I thought Super was making up fresh words on the spot, but looking at the lyric sheet right now, I see that it was a verbatim reading of said number.
21 Tandem Repeats (Robertson/Rojas/Hobbs) played next, running through “Dishpig” and “Woodstock.” Rojas—ruling in a full jeansuit—filled in for the missing Mr. Black with a couple bass solos in the WB style.
Interior Design followed, but after one ambient-type selection, Shockk’s old pal/nemesis The Motorcycle Man showed up to put on a one-man thrash/death/grind metal clinic, minus his customary showboating, Vancouver dissing, vinyl tossing, and biker regalia. Such a stripped-down presentation was a bit like seeing KISS without makeup. Nevertheless, the Railway crowd “Licked It Up” with gusto.
