Wednesday the 13th, nothing unlucky about this night, 2 fine acts, 2 good hockey games... if i recall correctly it was a fabulous day as well. October kind of day... crisp and sharp... sun not too high but lighting the slight colours in the trees against the blue sky. Next thing you know it was time to feed the kids and get the hell down to the SRSS. Caught some of the Toronto Pittsburgh game at home(Internet streaming) and heard from Super Steve that they held on for the victory when i got to the club. For some bizarre reason there was a little bit of a late start at the SRSS this evening but when it got going Christopher Johnson put on a fine set of solo acoustic singer songwriter tunes... all great Fire-Man agreed, but Fire-Man also thought he should talk more and engage the audience rather than just being excellent at playing and singing music. Next thing you Know Fire-Man is on stage on the other Mic conducting an interview with the said performer in an effort to get the performer to enlighten the audience on the story of his life. It came out that Chris is about to go into a studio to record an album and this show was a chance to "road test", or should i say "SR supper show" test the songs. Shortly thereafter there was about 8 of us on stage 4 doing one part of a symphony, 4 doing the other, and Chris singing the song... then it was time for the LFM.
Old Fat religious White people rule the world, Burn the man (i jumped up and played a horn part), Aliens, a Jam, LFM SRSS theme song #2 were all hit and there were good time had by all. When Fire-Man made the crowd chant "Steve, Steve, Steve..." to encourage a drum solo i went back to hit the can and on the way out i ran into "the mole" and we got talking about song technique, and then i believe the Canucks went on a power play, and then i heard Fire-man calling me and then trying to razz me for watching hockey... but they were doing well and on a roll so i sat back in the reeds and let the show carry on letting my vocal symphony part and horn honking experience be my participation in the show... i think it's bad form to be up there every time all the time. That's my story for now and I'm stuck in it, but i must say the LFM had a wonderful flute player named Melissa out and she was playing some very cool stuff.
Tomorrow we have Vancouver/Chicago and on the stage we have Rachel L Davis and 21 Tandem Repeats. I believe Rachel L Davis will be a trio, and 21TR will be a trio or a quartet backed by ace drummer Shawn Killaly... depending on who shows up 21TR could easily be more (add a few singers or such).
Be good.
